The rebuke is directed primarily to its clergy ("the angel of the church of the Laodiceans") who feel proudly "rich and increased with goods, in need of nothing" when in God's sight they are THE one [in history] "wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked" ~Robert J. Wieland

"The healing and health of the church can only come about by the restorative power of the cross. The integrity of the church lies in the pathway of Christ's gift of corporate repentance."  -- Paul E. Penno

Lesson 12: “Nutrition in the Bible”
"Their goal is not merely to live seven years longer and take more holiday trips; they want to keep their minds clear to comprehend the teaching of the Holy Spirit in an era of solemn significance."    ~Robert J. Wieland

"In the thoughts of man there are a great many questions which arise concerning himself. Some of these are highly important. So important indeed are they that the Word of God itself has recorded them. Nor is that all. This Word has not only recorded the questions, but it has also recorded the answers to the questions." What happens when a man dies?"  A. T. Jones

  • Is man mortal or immortal?
  • Where do men go when they die?
  • If a man dies, shall he live again?
  • Do the dead praise the Lord?

Lesson 11: “Optimism: Happiness and Healing”
"Israel came to believe the very act of giving an offering or making a sacrifice was what saved them, not the supreme sacrifice of the cross that their sacrifice foreshadowed. They could never find joy in the Lord who they believed expected an endless round of sacrifices."  Arlene Hill

Jesus says, "The one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out" (John 6:37).
As our High Priest, Jesus lives today as He lived 2000 years ago--His business is saving people from sin and addictions; that's His specialty; Peter says that He has no competitor in that "business," nobody else can do it.

Lesson 10: “Integrity: Wholeness and Holiness”
"The gospel does not teach you to be good so you can have fun. The gospel shows you what true faith is in Jesus and His accomplishment on the cross and that produces true joy. So what did He accomplish? Jesus delivered you from the second death. That is what hell is. Hell is fire and brimstone at the close of the millennium; however, there is such a thing as burning embarrassment here and now."  Paul E. Penno

"People are not simply counted righteous, but actually made righteous, by the obedience of Christ, who is as righteous as He ever was, and who lives today in those who yield to Him. His ability to live in any human being is shown in the fact that he took human flesh eighteen hundred years ago. What God did in the person of the Carpenter of Nazareth, He is willing and anxious to do for every man that believes."  Ellet J. Waggoner

"People sometimes say that they can believe that God forgives their sins, but they find it difficult to believe that he can keep them from sin. Well, if there is any difference, the latter is the easier of the two; for the forgiveness of sins requires the death of Christ, while the saving from sins requires only his continued life." Ellet J. Waggoner

"The Ten Commandments, whether engraved on tables of stone or written in a book, are only statements of the righteousness of God. Righteousness means right doing. It is active. The righteousness of God is God's right doing, His way. And since all His ways are right, it follows that the righteousness of God is nothing less than the life of God. The written law is not action, but only a description of the action. It is a picture of the character of God."  Ellet J. Waggoner
