Though there was a national apostasy, there followed from this leadership shaking a corporate repentance. The body politic en masse turned to God. “All the community of Israel . . . were weeping by the entrance of the Tent of Meeting” (Num. 25:6). This demonstrates that their unknown corporate sin was identified and spontaneous mass repentance ensued. It was a glorious moment of Israel’s heart-union with her Husband. They experienced the atonement. They appreciated the love of God as He ministered to them from “the Tent of Meeting.”
