Lesson 5: “Justification and the Law

 Subscribe to SST

"In other words, justification by faith is the experience of seeing the uplifted Saviour and appreciating the fact that “if one died for all, then were all dead” (2 Cor. 5:14); i.e., all would be dead if One had not died for all. This effective gift of God’s amazing forgiveness in Christ is given to the sinner and it reconciles an enemy’s heart to God so that the soul receives the atonement."  Paul E. Penno

Lesson 10: “Integrity: Wholeness and Holiness”
"The gospel does not teach you to be good so you can have fun. The gospel shows you what true faith is in Jesus and His accomplishment on the cross and that produces true joy. So what did He accomplish? Jesus delivered you from the second death. That is what hell is. Hell is fire and brimstone at the close of the millennium; however, there is such a thing as burning embarrassment here and now."  Paul E. Penno

Self-Interpretation

"A growing deception found in Christian counseling (and throughout society) is the false gospel of “self-esteem” which is incompatible with the Biblical Gospel of the Cross of Jesus Christ."

Eating with the Dogs

"Corporate repentance is true “depth repentance”, and is the only true kind that will enable me to “grow up” into Christ. If Christ experienced corporate repentance “in behalf of the human race,” are we so much better than He that we don’t need it?"  ~Paul E. Penno

SOLVING THE PROBLEM OF HEARTACHE

"To have faith is not merely to trust the Lord like you trust the bank or the insurance company. You can do that and still remain as selfish as you were before, because such trust is a self-centered concern. The John 3:16 idea of faith solves the problem and lifts our naturally self-centered hearts out of a dark cave into the sunlight: faith is a heart-melting appreciation of what it cost the Son of God to save us."  ~Paul E. Penno

THE SECOND GENERATION: ADMONITIONS

Paul Penno

The pagan view of the atonement is an angry God who seeks vengeance and must be appeased by an offering of blood. In other words, God needs the atonement to assuage His wrath against sinners.
