Sabbath School Today | with the 1888 Message Dynamic

From the creation week, only the Sabbath remains untouched by sin, and its observance is to keep in mind the creative power of God. But creative power is the power of the Gospel, so that which celebrates creation also celebrates redemption. ... The power that saves men is but the power that created the heavens and the earth. He imparts His grace by the same mysterious and mighty power by which He created the earth.

"Yet many professed Christians go on as if the cycle of day, month, and year were to continue unending. They have no sense of urgency or regard to the Day of Atonement that is upon us. A common fable that is held among them teaches that man must continue to sin while in this flesh—he can’t help it, and so forgiveness is great because he sins over and over again. This is not in Spirit and in truth. This is a fable and a commandment taught by man." --Daniel H. Peters

Here is a simple example using the eighth commandment: “You shall not steal.” Without the preamble, this “shall not” leaves you as the one to keep yourself from stealing. However, with the preamble God initiates the saving, “I have brought you out of bondage and will keep you from stealing. It is My promise to you!”  --Daniel H. Peters

The great controversy between Christ and Satan forms the backdrop of Joseph’s thrilling drama, and the fate of the plan of salvation is in the balance with that son of Jacob. In Genesis 12-17 God had promised and sworn an oath, placing His very existence and throne in jeopardy, that from Abraham’s “seed” the Messiah would come, the Savior of the world. That “seed” was the sons of Jacob and Satan sought to crush Joseph who was an essential link in the Messiah’s family tree.

"The message to the Church of the Laodiceans is a message to addicts—addicted to self and pride, avoiding reality at all costs. We say we are rich and increased with goods and in need of nothing. We say we have “the truth,” but adultery, child abuse, divorce, and alcohol and drug use are increasing even among church people. This cannot be the result of having the truth, but is the result of having the world."  --Daniel H. Peters

"The vessel must be emptied of self—this is done by Christ, the only One that has ever held His will, the will of our flesh, in perfect subjection to the will of the Father."  Daniel H. Peters

David was demonstrating an egocentric motivation – “Its all about me and what I want.” Uriah demonstrated a higher motivation than self – this higher motivation is the natural motivation of a converted person under the influence of agape.  Daniel H. Peters

Lesson 12: Law and Love

Subscribe to SST

“Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Rom. 12:2). The beauty of this statement lies in the meaning of the original Greek! The word “transformed” is referring to a change in nature. This does not mean for you to improve yourself, but it does recognize our utter inability and helplessness. This is the message of the cross – the abasement of all pride. It does mean having your very nature changed from what it is so that we are made partakers of the divine nature through the faith that works by agape. (2 Peter 1:1-4; Gal. 5:6).  --Daniel H. Peters

Lesson 7: “Victory over Sin

 Subscribe to SST

"God was in Christ reconciling us to Himself, and in the cross it is that He gives us His life. Failure to realize this is the reason we have failed many times in the ‘crosses’ we have borne. We bore crosses separated from Christ, and therefore the power in the cross was only the power in our own lives. It was nothing."

The Fruit of the Spirit is in all Goodness

To make preparing for this coming Sabbath's lesson on the Goodness of God broader, 3 articles have been selected.  These articles form a part of the understanding on the "Goodness" of God that will be studied this Sabbath.  ~Daniel Peters
