"The Lord has Redeemed Jacob"

“Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it! Shout, you lower parts of the earth; break forth into singing, you mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and glorified Himself in Israel” (Isa. 44:23).

The heavens and earth are called up to sing and shout for joy because God has redeemed men. Why is this? What interests have they in man’s redemption? Just this: the power that upholds them is the power that redeems mankind. The Gospel “is the power of God unto salvation, to every one that believeth;” and this divine power is manifested in “the things that are made.” Therefore, if God failed to redeem man, all creation would be wrecked, and would cease to exist. But the Lord still upholds all things by the word of his power; and so we know that with the Lord there is plenteous redemption.
