EXCERPT: "When God forgives our sin, that forgiveness is the power by which we resist sin in the future. The life that cleanses from the sin abides with us to withstand it. Christ is a merciful and faithful High Priest, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people; but His priesthood is according to “the power of an endless life.” Heb. 7:16.

WHEN the Savior taught His disciples how to pray, He put into their mouths the words, “forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” (Matt. 6:12). It is clear from this that God does not hold anything against man. If He did, Christ would not have taught us to make such a request.
"People sometimes say that they can believe that God forgives their sins, but they find it difficult to believe that he can keep them from sin. Well, if there is any difference, the latter is the easier of the two; for the forgiveness of sins requires the death of Christ, while the saving from sins requires only his continued life." Ellet J.
