Ephesians 1:3-20 | More Details of the Mystery

All who believe in Christ are sealed with the Holy Spirit, which is called the Holy Spirit of promise, because it is the surety of the promised inheritance.

He is the Mystery of God

We see the mystery of the Gospel to be the mystery of creation.

He is the Creator and Redeemer

We have redemption through His blood; the preaching of the cross is the preaching of the power of God; and the power of God is the power that creates; therefore the cross of Christ has in it creative power.

He is the Power of the Gospel

The preaching of Christ and Him crucified is the preaching of the power of God, and therefore it is the preaching of the Gospel, for the Gospel is the power of God.

He is the Desire of All Nations

He who implanted that desire is the only one who can satisfy it. God is manifested in Christ, and Christ is indeed “the desire of all nations” (Haggai 2:7), although there are so few who will believe that in Him alone is there perfect rest and satisfaction.

The Gospel and the Manger

“Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10, 11).

The Day of Rest

This shows that the first day of the week immediately followed the Sabbath; but the Sabbath was all past before the first day of the week began. Although they came “very early in the morning the first day of the week,” there was no Sabbath there. They could not have found it if they had been looking for it; but they were not looking for it, because they had kept it the day before, “according to the commandment.”

Getting Rid of Self

It is quite generally recognized that “self” is the great thing that stands in the way of Christian progress, and that it must be denied and put away.

Being Justified | Lesson #4 Helps

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom. 5:1). What does this mean? What is it to be justified? Both professors and non-professors often mistake its meaning. Many of the former think that it is a sort of halfway house to perfect favor with God, while the latter think that it is a substitute for real righteousness. They think that the idea of justification by faith is that if one will only believe what the Bible says, he is to be counted as righteous when he is not. All this is a great mistake. --Ellet J. I Want to Be the Lord’s

You do not want to be the Lord’s unless you are the Lord’s, for the Lord wants you to be His so much that He gave Himself for you; and the only thing that ever kept you from Him was your unwillingness.
