justification by faith

Something our lesson did not cover, however, is one of the main “gospel truths” concerning justification by faith: “The 1888 message is especially ‘precious’ because it joins together the true biblical idea of justification by faith with the unique idea of the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary.

Being Justified | Lesson #4 Helps

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom. 5:1). What does this mean? What is it to be justified? Both professors and non-professors often mistake its meaning. Many of the former think that it is a sort of halfway house to perfect favor with God, while the latter think that it is a substitute for real righteousness. They think that the idea of justification by faith is that if one will only believe what the Bible says, he is to be counted as righteous when he is not. All this is a great mistake. --Ellet J. Waggoner, 1893

Something bigger than the worship on the day Pentecost happened in 1888 and there was minimal reception and maximum rejection. Does that mean that nobody heard it and therefore it never happened? Ellen White pled with “men” to “give up their spirit of resistance to the Holy Spirit, ... The Holy Spirit has been insulted, and light has been rejected” (The Ellen G. White 1888 Materials, p. 1494, Feb. 6, 1896).

Danger of False Ideas on Justification by Faith

"There is not a point that needs to be dwelt upon more earnestly, repeated more frequently, or established more firmly in the minds of all, than the impossibility of fallen man meriting anything by his own best good works. Salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ alone."  Ellen G. White

Without Law of Any Kind

Therefore, my brethren, justification by faith forever, without any works of any law of any kind whatever, —this is the only ground of hope of salvation.  A. T. Jones

"The pure truth of the gospel changes lives. The acid test of correct doctrine is that it changes minds and hearts and behavior toward each other. Justification by faith applied to some of the most difficult “in-house” issues facing the church brings unity of belief and practice. This is Paul’s theme in Romans 14-16."  Paul E. Penno

Lesson 6: “Expounding the Faith

We must pause a moment and look at that word agape. It’s the Greek word for love, but it is an entirely different idea than we know naturally. The love we have by nature loves people who are nice; God’s agape loves people who are mean and bad. Our love depends on the beauty or value of the person whom we love; God’s love creates value or goodness in the one whom He loves. There’s where our hope lies!  ~ Robert J. Wieland

Lesson 4: “Justified by Faith

"Christ took upon His sinless nature mankind’s sinful nature, and at the cross crucified that nature. Just as all humanity were in Adam when he fell, just so all humanity were in Christ when He died the equivalent of the second death on the cross of Calvary. Therefore, without performing any legal trickery God is able legally to declare the sinner righteous."  Ann Walper

Lesson 1: “Paul and Rome

"The righteousness of the law fulfilled in us is the atonement. It is the practical meaning of the cleansing of the sanctuary. It is true justification by faith. It is Christ’s gift to us as our High Priest in the holiest of all. Thus Romans is an invitation into the Most Holy Place with Christ."

THE CROSS JUSTIFIES THE EXISTENCE OF ALL LIFE

 Paul Penno

All of human life both in the past, present, and future exists because it is justified by the cross. Calvary justifies the existence of all life.
